THE PILLARS OF PARKINSON'S FITNESS
At the heart of our program are our pillars - the key elements that shape a positive, effective approach to exercise for people living with Parkinson’s. Designed to fit naturally into everyday life, these pillars offer practical support for staying active, and moving with greater comfort and confidence. With clear guidance, expert-led exercise videos, and ongoing encouragement, the program helps you stay motivated and engaged, making exercise feel achievable and empowering, rather than overwhelming.
HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING
High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is a dynamic form of exercise that is increasingly recognised for its role in supporting movement and overall wellbeing for people living with Parkinson’s.
HIIT combines short bursts of high-effort exercise that raise your heart rate with brief periods of rest and recovery, creating a varied and engaging workout style.
Our HIIT workouts are designed to be fun, motivating, and supportive, helping you to stay active and challenge yourself. We offer workouts for a range of fitness levels, including a selection of beginner-friendly options to help you get started safely and confidently.
STRENGTH TRAINING
Strength training plays an important role in improving strength, stability and confidence, for people living with Parkinson’s. By targeting the muscles you rely on every day, it can help you feel more in control of your body and make common activities - such as standing up from a chair, walking, climbing stairs or carrying shopping - feel easier and safer.
Regular strength training can help maintain and restore muscle function, support better posture, and contribute to feeling steadier in everyday movements.
You won’t need any equipment to begin - our bodyweight exercises are a great starting point. As you grow stronger, you can progress to resistance bands or dumbbells - adding variety and building confidence along the way.
AGILITY AND GAIT TRAINING
Have you noticed any changes to your walking - such as slower pace, smaller steps, less arm swing, or feeling a bit unsteady when turning? These experiences can be common with Parkinson’s, but the good news is - staying active helps!
These exercises are an important part of our program. They can help you walk more confidently, navigate busy or uneven environments, turn and change direction more safely, and reduce the risk of trips and falls in everyday life. Sessions focus on practising responsive movements, changing direction, and moving with greater control.
Some of our favourite activities include agility ladder drills, mini hurdle challenges and multi-directional games. These fun and engaging exercises are designed to help improve coordination, balance awareness, and confidence in your everyday movements.
BALANCE TRAINING
We often don’t give much thought to our balance - until it becomes difficult. For many people living with Parkinson’s, changes in balance and stability can become more noticeable as the condition progresses.
Balance-focused exercises can help you feel steadier and more confident in everyday movements, helping you feel more secure when standing, walking, turning and reaching. That’s why we’ve created an extensive library of balance training videos, designed to help you practise steady, controlled movement and build confidence at your own pace.
Our balance sessions range from beginner-friendly routines to more advanced challenges and are designed to be engaging, supportive, and adaptable.
FINE MOTOR SKILLS TRAINING
Do everyday tasks such as fastening buttons or writing by hand, sometimes feel more challenging than they once did? You are not alone - for many people with Parkinson’s, fine hand and finger movements can feel more difficult at times.
Maintaining fine motor skills is important for staying independent and confident with daily activities like dressing, eating, writing, and using everyday tools. That’s why we’ve created our Hand Aerobics workouts - a range of simple, targeted exercises designed to keep your hands, fingers and wrists moving. These gentle routines encourage flexibility, build strength and coordination, and can be practised regularly as part of your exercise routine.
STRETCH & RELAXATION ROUTINES
Our yoga-style stretch routines can be a wonderful way to support both your body and mind when living with Parkinson’s. Many people find that these gentle sessions encourage mindful movement, flexibility and greater posture awareness.
They can also help ease muscle stiffness, reduce tension, and promote a sense of calm, making everyday movement feel more comfortable and manageable. We’ve created a range of stretch videos - including a gentle morning stretch to help you start the day feeling more comfortable, and a calming evening session to help you unwind before bedtime.
MEDITATION
Living with Parkinson’s can feel stressful, and many people notice that stress affects how they feel both physically and emotionally. Finding ways to slow down, reset, and relax can play a important role in supporting your overall wellbeing.
Managing stress is especially important with Parkinson’s, as tension and anxiety can sometimes intensify symptoms. Meditation is a gentle, calming practice that many people find helpful for managing stress. With regular practice, it can support relaxation, emotional balance and restful sleep - helping you feel more settled and resilient throughout the day.
To support you on your journey, we’ve developed a collection of relaxing meditation videos designed to help you unwind, refocus and find moments of calm within your day.
DUAL TASK TRAINING
Dual-task training involves combining movement - such as walking or balancing - with a simple cognitive task, such as counting backwards, naming categories, or recalling words.
These activities may sound straightforward, but managing movement alongside thinking tasks can feel more challenging for people with Parkinson’s, particularly in everyday situations. Practising these skills is important because many daily activities require you to move and think at the same time, such as walking in busy environments, navigating obstacles, or talking while moving.
Our dual-task sessions allow you to develop these combined skills in a controlled environment. With regular practice, dual-task exercises can support focus, build confidence, and help you feel more at ease in everyday situations.
