THE PILLARS OF PARKINSON'S FITNESS

THE KEY ELEMENTS OF EFFECTIVE EXERCISE FOR PARKINSON'S

At the heart of our program are our pillars — the key elements that form the foundation of effective exercise for Parkinson’s.  By building these pillars into your daily routine, you can transform your Parkinson’s journey and experience life-changing results.  Our program provides everything you need to succeed: the latest knowledge, guided exercise videos, and ongoing support to keep you motivated, consistent and confident every step of the way.

HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING

Research shows high-intensity training (HIIT) is one of the most effective ways to slow the progression of Parkinson’s.

HIIT combines short, powerful bursts of exercise—where you work at a higher effort and elevate your heart rate—with brief periods of rest and recovery.

Our HIIT workouts are fun, motivating, and tailored to address the symptoms of Parkinson’s. We offer workouts for every fitness level, including a wide range of beginner-friendly options to help you get started safely and confidently.

STRENGTH TRAINING

Strength training is critically important for people living with Parkinson’s. It helps maintain and restore muscle function, supports better balance and posture, and reduces the risk of falls. Strength training also plays a key role in preserving bone density, lowering the chance of fractures in the event of a fall.

If you’re ready to build strength, we’ve put together a variety of upper body, lower body, and full-body workouts. You won’t need any equipment to begin - our bodyweight exercises are a great starting point. As you grow stronger, you can take on new challenges with resistance bands or dumbbells - adding variety and building confidence along the way.

AGILITY AND GAIT TRAINING

Have you noticed any changes to your walking - like a slower pace, smaller steps, less arm swing, or feeling a bit unsteady when turning? These can be common with Parkinson’s, but the good news is: movement helps!

Agility and gait training exercises are an important part of our exercise program for Parkinson’s.  We focus on exercises that improve your ability to move quickly, change direction efficiently, and help you to maintain control and balance during movement.

Some of our favourite activities include agility ladder drills, mini hurdle challenges and multi-directional games.  Each one helps you stay quick on your feet, improve balance, and boost everyday mobility.

BALANCE TRAINING

We often don’t give much thought to our balance—until it becomes difficult. For many people living with Parkinson’s, loss of balance and stability is a common challenge that tends to increase as the condition progresses. In fact, it’s often considered one of the most difficult symptoms to manage because of the heightened risk of falling.

Research shows that balance can be improved through regular, targeted, and progressive exercises. That’s why we’ve created an extensive library of balance training videos, ranging from beginner-friendly routines to advanced challenges. Our programs are both creative and effective, designed to help you strengthen your balance skills and build confidence in everyday movement.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS TRAINING

Do you find fastening buttons tricky, or have you noticed your handwriting changing? You are not alone - Parkinson’s can sometimes make these small, precise everyday hand and finger movements more challenging.

That’s why we’ve created a wide range of Hand Aerobics workouts — simple exercises designed to reduce stiffness, improve mobility, and build strength in your hands, fingers, and wrists. Practicing them regularly can make a big difference. Over time, you will notice greater control, smoother movements, and improved dexterity.

YOGA

Yoga can be a wonderful way to support both your body and mind when living with Parkinson’s. It helps reduce muscle stiffness, improves joint mobility, and enhances posture. Beyond the physical benefits, yoga can also lift your mood and ease chronic pain.

We’ve created a range of yoga videos tailored for you — including a gentle morning stretch routine to get you moving better at the start of the day, and a calming evening yoga session designed to release muscle tension and promote deep relaxation before bedtime.

MEDITATION

Did you know that stress can trigger or worsen symptoms of Parkinson’s?

It can exacerbate symptoms such as freezing of gait, dyskinesia, tremor and even emotional symptoms such as feelings of frustration and anxiety.  Research suggests that long-term stress may also play a role in accelerating the progression of the disease.

The good news is that meditation can help.  Regular practice helps calm the nervous system, lower stress levels, boost your mood, improve sleep and supports emotional balance .Some studies even show it may ease symptoms like tremors and dyskinesia, while also promoting better motor control.

To support you on your journey, we’ve put together a wonderful selection of relaxing meditation videos—so you can find the one that feels just right for you.

DUAL TASK TRAINING

Dual-task training involves performing a motor activity - such as walking or balancing - while simultaneously engaging in a cognitive task, such as counting backwards, naming categories, or recalling words.

These activities may sound simple, but they’re very important for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s can make it harder for the brain to manage more than one thing at once. This can lead to slower reactions, unsteady balance, or freezing when walking - especially when distracted or trying to do two things at the same time.  Practicing dual-task exercises helps your brain and body work better as a team.  Over time, this type of training can improve your balance, walking speed, focus, and confidence. It also prepares you for real-life situations, like walking and talking with friends.
